Gear is a new face gear transmission. Noise due to the movement of small, light weight, smooth transmission, and many other features multi-tooth engagement in the modern aviation industry more and more attention. Orthogonal Face Gear in an earlier study abroad, technology, theory is more mature, and the main reduction in helicopters already in the system practical application. Domestic research across the gear currently rapid development stage. Theoretical study of orthogonal face gear transmission, and its application in practical engineering, manufacturing and development of China’s aviation gear drive system has important significance.Geometry calculations are based orthogonal face gear to achieve engineering applications. It has defined a plane perpendicular to the pitch circle of the gear, dividing the reference surface, such as geometric calculations. Through the analysis of orthogonal cross-sectional surface of the gear tooth profile shape, draw orthogonal face gear tooth variability. Analysied of the orthogonal face gear and tapered undercut causes the inner and outer radii derived orthogonal face gear calculation formula. Then, we setted up a complete orthogonal face gear geometry calculation system.Analysied of the orthogonal face gear transmission principle point contact; Studied on characteristics of the perpendicular contact surface of gear; Derived tooth surface contact point induced normal curvature. And used Hertz contact theory, the orthogonal face gear transmission contact ellipse area and the maximum contact stress, Finite element software was verified. Finally, the used of finite element software for primary and secondary gear unit housing were static and modal analysis, cased deformation characteristics.
