Background and Meaning of the Study:Recently the market is entering into era of red ocean strategy:the product lifecycle is getting shorter and shorter, the cost requirement of the product price is becoming more and more severe, and the market competition turns to be fiercer and fiercer. Great change may occur in industrial structure due to the spiral of future base wage. Object of this study, Compal Electronics (Kunshan) Co., Ltd is all the more so. The manufacturing industry has it both of technology-intensive and labor intensive. They are not only trapped in the predicament of difficult recruitment, wage inflation, cost-down, up-going material price and ever-increasing dimission rate, but also difficulty from the clients of various and small amount requirement, critical quality requirement and shortened delivery time. Thus Compal Electronics (Kunshan) Co., Ltd has to carry out process reengineering to their production line to extricate themselves out of the dilemma. This is a challenge that all business entities may face up. In corresponding, a proposal of Cell Modular Production is brought forward to reengineer their production mode, and hope to lift market competitiveness, reduce labor input, and speed up production reaction by it, therefore to meet the requirement of the clients and the long-term profit of the company, and to provide reference to industry go-together.Main Study contents:This study focuses on the notebook OEM assembly lines of Compal Electronics (Kunshan) Co., Ltd to illustrate the actual introduction and application of Cell Modular Production, and only one of the OEM factories is discussed in this article. Main client of the researching object is Dell Company. Because of the benchmarking client, various and small amount of the demands, short production time requirement and severe quality control (direct quality control done by the Dell in-house QA), the object is of high research value.Innovation and Promotion:Cell Modular Production changes the linear pattern of the conventional production mode; various reforming is carried out to strengthen the diversification and flexibility of the production mode.The conventional production mode advocates streamline linear pattern. It values the single production of worker, control the production efficiency by the speed of the linear streamline. The streamline speed is set by the average production efficiency, and all production processes flows at this speed, therefore to guarantee the production capacity of the production line.However, this streamline mode greatly dampens the enthusiasm of workers. Despite of the worker capability, the production is driven by the speed of the line equipment, the workers act mechanizedly as equipments on the line. Not only will the efficiency possibility of the worker be deflated, but also may cause problem of sense of identity.One-stop service is the main condition of the multi-skill staff training. More detailed application methods and assessment of the Cell Modular Production is proposed in this article. Proven by the practical application and discussion, the Cell Modular Production will have a wide and good application in near future, which elevates the spirit of human-based management, and provides certain reference to domestic manufacturers.
