Cities are the strong point of tourism development, which provides necessary supplies tourists’tourism activities. Tourist flow is the explicit expression of tourism demand. Inbound tourism has an important influence on tourism development; its development level represents the degree of the development of the tourism. There is a contradiction between tourism supply and demand in the process of urban tourism development, the balance is very important and it is the eternal city tourism development tasks. The coupling coordination degree model is a useful tool for coordination of urban tourism supply and demand. Besides, the evaluation criterion of coupling coordination degree of urban tourism supply and demand affects the final judgment of coordination degree. The evaluation criterion hasn’t enough attention on theory and practice, it becomes a research thesis and it must to be solved in the field of the tourism supply and demand.This paper is supplied by"the tourist flows and destination coupling:factor, model and the mechanism study of inbound tourism in six major cities" (NO.41271158). In the instruction of the tourism theory, the geography theory, the economics theory, the sociology theory and the system theory, the paper establishes the evaluation index system for coupling coordination of urban tourism supply and demand. Based on market research data of Shanghai and Xi’an, the paper establishes the validation index system for coupling coordination of urban tourism supply and demand. The paper uses lots of research methods, which including questionnaire, data analysis, comparative analysis and mathematical modeling. Also, that makes a perfect combination of macro and micro, theory and practice. By selecting the evaluation criterion of coupling coordination degree of urban tourism supply and demand from the existing four types of coupling coordination level classification standard, this paper provides a more applicable classification standard for the subsequent research. Based on the standard, the paper evaluates the coupling coordination level of tourism supply and demand in Shanghai and xi’an, and it analyzes the differences between the two cities.The main research conclusions are listed below:(1) This paper builds the coupling coordination evaluation index system of urban tourism supply and demand. Among them, the system layer consists of inbound tourism demand system and the inbound tourism supply system; in the target system, there are 7 indexes included in the inbound tourism demand system. Besides, inbound tourism supply system consists of core supply and basic supplies and ancillary supplies. There are 28 indexes concluded totally.(2)This paper builds the coupling coordination verification index system of urban tourism supply and demand. The index system is mainly composed of eight supply elements, such as tourist resources endowment, urban social culture, urban economic activities, tourist traffic, tourist infrastructure services, urban environmental sanitation, the condition of information promotion of tourism, tourist safety and so on. And the structure of urban supply formed by the core supply system, the basic supply of system and auxiliary supply system includes 39 indexes.(3) The evaluation criterion of coupling coordination degree of urban tounsm supply and demand is established. It founds that" Ten levels of classification " and " Six levels of classification" has some adaptive defects in the practice, the result is different between the adaptive coupling coordination degree model and the market survey of tourists evaluation; According to the discuss results between generality and clarity of classification theory, "four levels of classification " is fuzzy and has some inaccurate problems. This research suggests that "Seven levels of classification" has good adaptability on the level of coupling coordination degree determine. As a result, the supply standard abandoned the "Four levels of classification "and "Six levels of classification " and " Ten levels of classification " classification standard, which concludes that "seven levels of classification" has good adaptability on the determine of coupling coordination degree.(4) The study found that the reactions are different between Shanghai and Xi’an tourism supply and demand of coupling coordination level. When facing financial crisis event, Shanghai performs relatively stable and show the strong adaptability. However, Xi’an performs sensitive, the coordination level swings around the year 2008. Affected by the world expo in 2010, the peak of coupling coordination between Shanghai tourism supply and demand has arrived. Shanghai belongs to the tourism supply driven, Xi’an is basically travel demand driven.The following are innovation points:(1)Based on the predecessors’ research, this paper builds the evaluation index system of the coordination between the supply and demand of urban tourism and authentication system and index system of the two matches each other in structural; ultimately achieve the goal of mutual comparison. Trying to make the combination of macro and micro research methods, evaluating from a macro level, comparing from the microscopic level, or simply using statistical data and survey data constraints, this paper makes a combination of primary data and secondary data.(2) In view of coupling coordination level standards of chaos, through the combination of theoretical analysis and practice verification analysis method, the existing four types of coupling coordination level classification standard for selection, this paper determined to use the method of "seven points" classification standard in practice and theory, good adaptability, formed the coupling coordination level standard, city tourism supply and demand will be divided into two major categories of coordination and disorder, seven coordination level, according to the relationship between supply and demand and the tourism divides the 21 types coupling coordination development. The establishment of the standard filled the coupling coordination degree of the shortage of the level of adaptability researchThe following are the research deficiencies:(1) In the field of research data, validation data contains only late data, lack of track years of data.(2) About the research case, the study just selects the two cities as the case, which lacks of cases that among different scales, or among different regions, or among different cities types.(3) About the research content, this paper has some study on the inbound tourism flows. However, which does not involve domestic tourism flow.In the subsequent study, more attention should be paid on these issues.
