In this study, the ten different matrix formulations was designed by different volumeratios mixing from seven kinds of substrate material including fermented maize straw, cowdung, turf, mushroom residue, vermiculite, slag and rover sand. The experiment wasconducted to study effects of different matrix formulations on growth, photosynthesis, dryand fresh weight, specific leaf weight, yield and quality of eggplant (var. ZiYang eggplant). The objective of this study was to provide theoretical and technical basis for greenhousevegetable cultivation in the non-arable land areas, and to choose the appropriate matrixrecipe for eggplant cultivation in greenhouse. The main results were shown as follows:1. In this research, the growth and physiological index of cultivated eggplant indifferent substrate were determined, including the plant height, stem diameter, specific leafweight, plant fresh and dry weight, the fruit yield and quality, photosynthetic gasexchange(including net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, intercellular CO2concentration and stomatal conductance) and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters(includingthe maximal photochemical efficiency, maximum antenna conversion efficiency, photochemical quenching coefficient and actual photochemical efficiency) of eggplant. And different matrix formulation have different influence on the growth of eggplant.2. Through the cluster analysis on the growth and physiological indexes, ten kinds ofculture medium were divided into four categories:The first, recipe B (maize straw: manure: turf: vermiculite: river sand=2:3.5:1:1:2.5),recipe E(maize straw: manure: turf: river sand=2:3.5:1:3.5) and recipe F(maize straw:manure: turf: river sand=2:2.5:2:3.5).The second, recipe C (maize straw: manure: turf: vermiculite: river sand=2:2.5:2:1:2.5), recipe D (maize straw: manure: vermiculite: river sand=2:4.5:1:2.5) and recipe H(maize straw: manure: river sand: mushroom residue=2:3.5:3.5:1).The third, recipe A (maize straw: manure: turf: vermiculite: slag=2:3.5:1:1:2.5),recipe G (maize straw: manure: river sand=2:4.5:3.5) and recipe J (maize straw: manure:turf: vermiculite: bira nest: river sand: mushroom residue=2:3:1:1:1:1:1).And the fourth, recipe I (maize straw: manure: bira nest: mushroom residue=4:2:3:1). 3. Through the principal component analysis on growth and physiological index ofeggplant, the ranking of these ten different formulations of the comprehensive principalcomponent are: B, C, F, E, H, D, G, A, J, I.4. Combining the cluster analysis and the principal component analysis, the suitablerecipe of matrix formulation for greenhouse cultivation of eggplant are recipe B, recipe Eand recipe F.
