Cotton was the main cash crop and the largest acreage of crops in Xinjiang. It had planting low cost and good economic returns.With the development of rural economy and reducing the agricultural labor force, more and more cotton stalk was abandoned or burned in the field, resulting in a tremendous waste of resources and serious pollution to the air. With convenient, fast, low-cost advantage, mechanical field was the main way to achieve cotton stalk field. Stalk chopper machine was divided into horizontal and vertical from the structure. The research on the horizontal stem chopper machine was widely used at present, but the few studies to vertical shaft stem field machine. Therefore, Designing a new type of cotton stalk cutting device based on the basis of vertical shaft stem field machine was important to solve our mechanized cotton stalk and the sustainable development of agriculture field.Based on checking out the relevant literature of the mechanical properties of cotton stalks, cutting mechanism and cutting device, it field researched on methods for cotton cultivation and planting patterns. It got physical parameters like spacing, line spacing, minimum collateral height, cotton stalk diameter in different parts. It measured moisture content of cotton stalk variation with time. cotton stalks were cut mechanical properties tests. It got the cotton stalk shear forces in different parts of the sample changes with shear displacement and destruction load varies with moisture content.According to the design requirements of the cotton stalk cutting test, it determined the overall design,work processes, and test-bed for functional decomposition. Test station included cutting devices, transport equipment, cotton stalk clamping device and a data acquisition system. According to the cutting type and kinematic analysis, it designed the cutter and cutting devices. Delivery device and cotton stalk holding device were designed, according to the cotton stalk material properties and testing requirements. It determine the program data acquisition system. According to the test station power consumption and data accuracy requirements, it got the frequency motor, the drive and the torque and speed sensor models.It made a solid modeling of cutting test by Solidworks software and used Ansys Workebench software to finite element analysis of the key parts. Cutting frame structure were optimized.. The blade and drive shaft were checked and made a modal analysis.By orthogonal rotation design experiment and using Design-Expert 8.0.6 software for data analysis, it got the influence of experimental factor about cutting speed, feed rate and the inclination of the test targets to the experimental index about cutting power and rate cut. It made model optimization and obtained the best combination of tests to meet the performance factor by multi-objective optimization model optimization method, as well as analyzed. the optimization parameters and optimization region.
