Plant density is one of the most important factors affecting the soil water resources on semi-arid loess hilly region. Furthermore, it also affects the plant growth. Therefore, it is very necessary to explore the influence of plant density on soil moisture and plant growth for vegetation restoration and ecological construction. This study focused on Caragana korshinskii were investigated the variation of soil moisture and its growth condition in test plots with different densities. Main conclusions draw from this study are as follows:1) Soil water content of Caragana korshinskii increased flowing the increase of density and there were significant differences under the different densities of treatments and the, except the highest original density of Caragana korshinskii(6700 plot/100 m2), later 3years of plantation. Howeve, the differences of soil water contents of 10-12 years Caragana korshinskii under different densities were not significant, except the lowest original density of Caragana korshinskii(2500plot/100 m2).2) The influences of density changes on height of Caragana korshinskii and its basal diameter were connected with stand age. The plant height growth was positively correlated to plant density for 1 to 3-year-old Caragana korshinskii. The basal diameter increased flowing the increase of density in first 5 years. The plant height and basal diameter growth were both restrained under the condition of excessive high or low density of 10 to 12-years-old Caragana korshinskii.3) The reaching times of the soil water resource use limit under different Caragana korshinskii desnsities were different. The start and end times for influence of vegetation on soil water systems were also different. The highest Caragana korshinskii density reached the using limitation of soil water content in the fifth year. And the lowest Caragana korshinskii density reached the using limitation of soil water content after the fifth year.
