China is a country with severe water shortage and unbalanced distribution of water resources, but the utilization rate of water in irrigation can hardly reach 0.4 even today. Comparing with other developed countries, which have already reached 0.8 use advanced irrigating facilities and technologies. we still use very traditional and wasteful irrigating methods, such as basin irrigation and furrow irrigation. These traditional and backward irrigating methods become nightmare to our already serious deficient water resources and can even cause other ecological problems, such as the soil loss and the soil salinization. In order to make full use of water, to improve the current situation of agricultural irrigation and to prompt the development of ecological agriculture, designing an automatic water saving irrigation control equipment, which integrated detection. irrigation and remote control in one set, is of great urgency.Aiming at the above problems, the goal of this project is to design a set of automatic water saving irrigation control system, which intergrated embedded technology, ZigBee technology for short-range wireless communication, GPRS technology for long-range wireless communication and database technology. Taking the transmission distance, the capacity of network nodes, the power consumption and the cost into consideration, choosing ZigBee can better meet the needs of agricultural irrigation than the infrared, the Bluetooth and the Wifi wireless communication technology.The main control unit plays a central role in connecting the whole automatic water-saving irrigation control system. On one hand, it serves as a coordinator in the field wireless communication network.which is is responsible for the operation of the entire network, receiving data acquisition node and control the opening or closing of the electromagnetic valve; on the other hand, it exchange data and instructions with the management platform through the GPRS module. At the same time, it also monitors the operation of the system frequency converter, the power consumption and the screen display.The monitoring and management platform is based on B/S framework, and realize its management and monitor of field crops thorugh GPRS network. It can achieve the functions such as:pinpointing, displaying the real-time temperature and humidity of soil and regulating the water consumption automatically according to the growth cycle of crop.After finishing the designation of both hardware and software, the system is verified by several experiments. Each terminal nodes can communicate well with the main control unit, and both the accuracy and sensitivity of data collecting can satisfy the practical application requirements. Through examing the monitoring platform, it is confirmed that this platform can real-time monitor and effectively manage terminal equipments. Thus, the feasibility of this system is verified.
