Objective:To compare the efficacy, tolerance and adverse reaction among three methods in bowel preparation and study the application of a single dose of oral sodium phosphate solution and dimethicone powder in bowel preparation before colonoscopy.Methods:705patients undergoing colonscopy were randomized into Group A,Group B and Group C, and235patients were assigned to each group. They were respectively given dimethicone powder in addition to a single dose of oral sodium phosphate solution, a single of oral sodium phosphate solution, and polyethylene glycol-electrolyte powder for the bowel preparation. Endoscopists who were blinded to bowel preparation methods evaluated the effect of bowel cleansing and the intracolonic foam. The average time from taking medicine to the first decation, last decation and beginning of colonscopy, the defecation number, taste, adverse reactions and tolerance were recorded through questionnaires. Results:There was no significant differences in effective rate of bowel cleansing and taste among three groups(P>0.05); Group A was lower than Group C in the rate of large number of bubbles, while Group B was higher than that of Group C, and their differences were significant(P<0.05); Both Group A and Group B was shorter than Group C in the average time from taking medicine to either the first decation or last decation, and the defecation number of the two groups was also less than Group C. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); Group A and Group B were lower than Group C in the rate of adverse reactions, meanwhile both of them was better than Group C in the tolerance(P<0.05); Group A was lower than Group C in the rate of large number of bubbles (P<0.05), but there were no significant differences between the two groups in the average time from taking medicine to either the first decation or last decation, the defecation number, the rate of adverse reactions and tolerance. Conclusion:A single dose of oral sodium phosphate with dimethicone (?) as good quality of bowel cleansing, and it also has the benefits of less foam, better tolerance and less adverse reactions. The dimethicone powder has significant effect of defoaming. It should be applied in bowel preparation before colonoscopy.
