Part I The research about SD rats t lumbar arteries anatomyObjective To study the anatomic location, anatomic features and variance of ratlumbar arteries. The research results can provide evidence for establish spinal cordischemia model by clamping lumbar arteries. Methods Microanatomical observation of rat lumbar arteries anatomic locationand measure the distance between lumbar arteries, main lumbar arteries length andlumbar arteries diameter were studied on SD rats descending aorta perfused with redemulsion. Results There are five lumbar arteries which are derived from the dorsal side ofabdominal aorta. L1located a little above the left arteriorenal (LRA). L2only a littlebelow the LRA. L3and L4located near the iliolumbar artery and both of them arelocated so close to each other. L5derived from the dorsal side of middle sacral artery. The middle sacral artery derived from the dorsal side of abdominal artery root.Variance existed in the L3and L4lumbar arteries. Lumbar arteries from theabdominal aorta and then be divided into upper and lower, appear as “Y”. Five lumbararteries were distributed throughout the psoas and accompanied by spinal nerve enterspinal cord by foramen. Then enter spinal arteries and contribute widely to bloodsupply to spinal cord. Conclusion Rats have five lumbar arteries. Their anatomical location is fixedand they are easy to ligate. Thus, rats are convenient to make spinal cord ischemiamodels.Part Ⅱ The establishing spinal cord ischemia model and evaluation of SDratObjective On the anatomy of SD rats and establish spinal cord ischemia modelby clamping lumbar arteries. In order to supply an ideal model for spinal corddiseases and spinal cord injury research.Methods20SD rats were divided into the sham operation group and spinal cord ischemia group. Spinal cord ischemia group lumbar arteries were ligated and the shamoperation group just separate out all lumbar arteries. BBB scoring of motor functionof hindlimb of rats, the hematoxylin-eosin staining (HE) andimmunohistochemistry test were taken after vascular ligation. Results BBB scoring of motor function of hindlimb of rats after vascularligation48h is9.22±0.97, a statistically significant difference(P<0.01). The result ofspinal cord ischemia HE is that the nuclei of spinal cord anterior horn neurons weredisrupted or shrunk, nervous cell apoptosis and necrosis and the number of normalneuron is decreasing. Immunohistochemistry showed the sham operation group hadonly a few scattered yellow-brown positive cells of Caspase-3, while the spinal cordischemia group can be seen numerous and densely distributed positive cells, astatistically significant difference(P<0.01).Conclusion Through ligating SD Rats five lumbar arteries, we can make stabilityspinal cord ischemia models and can supply an ideal model for spinal cord diseasesand spinal cord injury research.
