Objective:To observe the efficiency of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS;Trade name:Mirena) for preventing recurrence of endometrial polyps after transcervical resection of endometrial polyps (TCRP) under hysteroscopy. Methods:There were315cases with endometrial polyps under hysteroscopy in our hospital recently, including198cases with simple endometrial polyps,38cases with endometrial polyps combined adenomyosis,40cases with endometrial polyps combined myoma of uterus, and39cases treated with orally administration of Tamoxifen after breast cancer surgery but with endometrial polyps. After TCRP, the cases with simple endometrial polyps (group A) were randomly subdivided into3groups, group①(TCRP+Mirena) of65cases were treated with LNG-IUS after TCRP under hysteroscopy; group②(TCRP+medroxyprogesterone) of68cases were treated with orally administration of medroxyprogesterone at the15th day of the first menses after TCRP under hysteroscopy,10mg per day continuously for10days. The above methods were repeated for3months. There were65cases in control group (TCRP) without any other treatment after TCRP under hysteroscopy. The recurrence rate of endometrial polyps was compared among3groups within12months. Other117cases (combined with other diseases regarded as group B) were treated with TCRP under hysteroscopy, and randomly divided into2groups. The study group (TCRP+Mirena) of59cases were treated with LNG-IUS after TCRP under hysteroscopy; control group of58cases were without any other treatment after TCRP under hysteroscopy. The recurrence rate of endometrial polyps was compared between2groups within12months.Results:The recurrence rates of3subgroups (study group①, study group②and control group) in group A with simple endometrial polyps were0%,6.45%,24.62%, respectively. Compared with control group, the recurrence rates of study group①(TCRP+Mirena) and study group②(TCRP+medroxyprogesterone) obviously decreased (P<0.05), there were statistical differences; the recurrence rate of endometrial polyps in study group①(TCRP+Mirena) was lower than that in study group②(TCRP+medroxyprogesterone), there was statistical difference (P<0.05). The recurrence rates were1.7%in Mirena group,25.85%in control group for group B, there was statistical difference (P<0.05).Conclusion:The recurrence of endometrial polyps can be effectively inhabited with LNG-IUS after TCRP under hysteroscopy...
