This master’s thesis consisds of four chapters. In chapter one and two, the studiesof chemical constituents from Rose odorata Sweet var. gigantea (Coll. et Hemsl.) Rehd. et Wils and Swertia angustifolia Buch. var. pulchella (D. Don) Burk. Thethird and fourth chapters are composed of two summaries of the research in thechemical constituents and bioactivities of R. odorata Sweet var. gigantea (Coll. etHemsl.) Rehd. et Wils and Swertia plants, respectively.As one of the R. plants, R. odorata Sweet var. gigantean. R. odorata Sweet var.gigantea is used to treat inflammations,dysenteric, and so on. Fourteen compounds,were isolated from the roots of R. odorata Sweet var. gigantean including Euscaphicacid (1), Kaji-ichigoside F1(2),2α,3β,19α-Trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (3), Rosamultin (4),2,3,19,23-Tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic-acid (5),2,3,19,23-Tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic-acid-β-D-Glucopy ranosylester (6), Catechin (7), Guibourtinidol-(4β,8)-catechin (8),(+)-Fise-tinidol-(4β,8)-catechin (9), Epicatechin (10), β-Sitosterol (11), Oleanolic acid (12),-Amyrin(13), Ursolic acid (14).Swertia angustifolia Buch. var. pulchella (D. Don) Burk is a substituent for S.mileensis T. N. Ho et W. L. Shih in Yunnan province.The studies on chemicalconstituents from the S. angustifolia Buch.var. pulchella resulted in the isolation of26compounds. They were listed as follows:1,5,8-Trihydroxy-3-methoxy xanthone (1),1-Hydroxy-3,5,8-trimethoxy xanthone (2),1-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy xanthone (3),Gentiacaulein (4),1-Hydroxy-3,5,6-trimethoxy xanthone (5),1-Hydroxy-3,7,8-trimethoxy xanthone (6),1,8-Dihydroxy-3,7-dimethoxy xanthone (7),1,7-Dihy-droxy-3,4-dimethoxy xanthone (8),1,5-Dihydroxy-3,4,8-trimethoxy xanthone (9),1,7,8-Trihydroxy-3-methoxy xanthone (10), norbellidifolin (11),1,3,7-Trihydroxy xanthone(12),1,3,7-Trihydroxy-8-methoxy xanthone (13),1,3,7-Trihydroxy-4,8-dimethoxyxanthone (14), Swertianolin (15),1,7,8-Trihydroxy-3,4-Dimethoxy xanthone (16),sweroside (17),3,4-dihydro1H,6H,8H-naphtho-[1,2-c:4,5-c’, d’]dipyrno-1,8-dione(18), Syringaresinol (19),(-)-berchemol (20), Oleanolic acid (21),-Amyrin (22), β-Sitosterol (23),2,6-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzoate (24), vanillic acid (25), syringicacid (26). Amog them, compounds2,5-8,10,12-14,16,18,20,24-26were isolatedfrom this plant for the first time, and compounds5,14,16,14,16were thesulfocompounds isolated from Swertia plants for the first time.Finally, R. odorata Sweet var. gigantea, the researches progress, including che-mical compositions, pharmacological activitie, method of the content determination,patent researches were reviewed in this chapter. Meanwhile, summary of the resources,chemical composition, pharmacological activitie, clinical applications of S. plants waspresended based on literature.
