Objective To investigate the nutritional and health status of 7-14school-aged students in poverty-stricken areas in Anhui province as well as analyze influencing factors, and to provide basis for policies made to improve the nutritional and health level of school-aged students. Methods All the 6229 7-14 aged children from 8 poor counties were investigated by health examination and questionnaire survey. The the growth of height and weight of school-age children investigated were graded by percentile evaluation on height and weight. The chi-square test was adopted to find the alone factors impacting the nutrition status of elementary school students in school with the binomial logistic regression model used for multiple factor analysis. Results Compared with the average level of the whole national school-aged children, the level of children surveyed is relatively lower. The rate of malnutritional, normal, overweight, obesity is 39.0%(mild27.2%, moderate8.8%, severe3.0%),50.3%,5.0%,5.7%,individually; First-class rates of average height and weight of pupil boys sampled are 10.6%,10.4% respectively.Low-grade rate values of height and weight of the sampled boys are relatively low(3.9%,4.2% separately) with the obviously increasing trend as age. First-class rates of average height and weight of pupil girls sampled are 8.7%ã€7.1% respectively far lower than ones of boys.Low-grade rates of height and weight of the sampled girls are 3.3%,3.7% with the same obviously increasing trend; The survey on the situation whether school-age children are aware of knowledge on nutrition and health shows:the total numbers of students who responded wrongly or select the option of" Do Not know" as to whether it is necessary to drink milk, eat eggs, eat breakfast every day are 4868,4457,3491(78.2%,71.6%,56.1% higher than 50%) implying the fact that their level of awareness is overly low. However, the correct answering rates on the questions of "sleepness can be reduced and we can stay up late every day as long as having good meals" and "physical education is not needed because students in countryside have enough activities" are comparatively higher, suggesting their level of awareness on these problems are higher; The results by both the alone factor and binomial logistic regression analyses show: gender, age, family size, living in urban or rural areas, parents as migrant workers or not, breakfast frequency, types of breakfast staple food, awareness of nutrition and health knowledge, are associated to the malnutrition of 7 to 14 years old school-age children in poverty-stricken areas in Anhui province; Gender, living in urban or rural areas, the main food for breakfast are connected with overnutrition of school-age children. Conclusion The status of nutritional and health of school-aged students in poverty-stricken area in Anhui province is still worrying. The malnutrition problem is obvious. It is extremely necessary to develop economic level of poverty-stricken areas, strengthen nutritional knowledge popularity and education of school-aged students and parents, carry out intervention projects focusing on nutrition and healthy in order to guarantee the children to grow healthily... |
