Previous researches showed that the Chrysanthemum morifolium cv Chuju (Chuju) contains a variety of ingredients, mainly including flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids and acetylene compounds, Pharmacological studies shows that Chuju has the effects of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, cardiovascular protection, anti-infection, anti-tumor and so on. In order to provide a further research of chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Chuju, the chemical and biological investigation on Chuju was conducted stematically in this text. The chemical constituents were isolated and purified on silica gel column and other column chromatography (D101 macroporous resin column, silica gel column chromatography, constant and medium pressure MCI, C18, medium and constant pressure ODS, Sephadex LH-20 gel), and their chemical structures were identificated mainly by means of several efficient isolated methods and spectral technologies (MS, infrared, UV, nuclear NMR, and X-ray). Totally 25 compounds are isolated and determined, as lists below:Apigenin (1), acacetin (2), luteolin (3), diosmetin (4),5,7,3’,4’-tetra-hydroxyflavanone (5), quercetin (6), spinacetin (7), cirsiliol (8), axillarin (9),5,3’, 4’-trihydroxy-3,6,7-trimethoxyflavone (10), artemetin (11),5,7-dihydroxy-3,6,3’, 4’-tetramethoxyflavone (12), apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (13), acacetin-7-O-β-D-glucoside(14),3’-methoxy-quercetin-3-O-glucoside (15),5,7,3’,4’-tetra-hydroxyflavanone-7-O-β-D-glucoside(16),β-amyrin(17), a-amyrin(18), arnidiol (19), lup-3,16,28-triol (20),β-sitosterol (21), stigmasterol (22),β-daucosterol(23), Phenmethyl caffeate (24),2,5-dihydroxycamphane (25).The flavonids isolated from Chuju were futher determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Antioxidant activity by DPPH assay showed that the high antioxidant ability of flavonoids, and the activity depends mainly on B ring structure of catechol, and also C ring three hydroxyls have a certain contribution to the antioxidant ability. The anti-inflammatory activity study of flavonids were evaluated by the Griess method to detect the content of NO and results show that this compound has certain anti-inflammatory activity.
