Polygonum aviculare L. belongs to Polygonaceae Polygonum herbaceous plants, and it was distributed all over the word. Polygonum aviculare L. contain a variety of chemical composition with physiological activity, such as flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, phenolic acids, saponins, steroid, alkaloids, quinones, vitamins, carbohydrates, various kinds of constant and trace elements, flavonoids are the main chemical compositions of Polygonum aviculare L; As traditional Chinese medicine, Polygonum aviculare L. have diuretic, insecticide, antibacterial, diminish inflammation, protecet liver, anticancer antioxidant and enhance immunity and other pharmacological effects. The effective ingredients from Polygonum aviculare L.were extracted by 95% ethyl alcohol, then, the extract was concentrated and Partitioned with petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol successively, two compounds were obtained from the Petroleum ether extract and seven compounds from n-butanol extract employing solvent extraction, recrystallization, silica gel column chromatography and Sephadex LH-20. Eight compounds were identified by means of NMR techniques and identified as 1-nonacosanol, β-sitosterol, quercetin, kaempferol, myricetin, avicularin, nicotinic acid. Among them, compound of 1-nonacosanol and nicotinic acid were isolated from Polygonum aviculare L. for the first time. This experiment study on the antioxidant activity of Polygonum aviculare L. extract parts, the results show that the reducing power ethyl acetate fraction> 95% ethanol extract > n-butanol fraction> petroleum ether fraction. The n-butyl alcohol parts has the the most powerful effect of removal hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals.
