Background and Methods"ALRP exerts fewer hot characteristics without ZR’s compatibility" originates from the medical book of Zheng Zhi Yao Jue. The compatibility of ALRP and ZR can enhance the effectiveness of ALRP’s recuperating yang, keeping it lasting and the compatibility can reinforce the efficacy of ZR’s dispelling chills, making it work faster. The compatibility of ALRP and ZR is frequently applied in ancient and modern clinic of TCM. Then whether is the saying scientific or objective? And what is the concrete substance of ZR reinforcing the hot of ALRP1Basing on the theory of TCM and the biothermodynamics, applying the cold/hot plates differentiating and microcalorimetry method, this paper studied the difference of cold and hot property between Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Zingiberis Rhizoma at different components levels. We hope that the thermokinetics can be useded to manifest the truth that ALRP plays fewer hot characteristics without ZR’s compatibility and could further reveal its concrete substance.Results(1) Study of the integrated animal thermotropism behavior. By cold/hot plates differentiating method, to research the effeets of compatibility between Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Zingiberis Rhizoma at different components levels on normal mice and the model of cold signs. The results showed that, compared with the Control mice, the RR (remaining ratio) on hot plates of the Model mice increased markedly (P<0.01), reflecting their thermotropism. The RR of ALRP+ZR, alkaloids, volatile oil and alkaloids+volatile oil administration groups decreased transparently (P<0.05or P<0.01), i.e. their behavior of cold tropism enhanced, reflecting the hot nature of the drugs. Meanwhile, water drinking, oxygen consumption, and the activity of ATPase, T-AOC, T-SOD all increased markedly (P<0.01).(2) Study of microscopical biothemodynamics. By microcalorimetry method, to research the effeets of compatibility between Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Zingiberis Rhizoma at different components levels on Escherichia coli and draw the thermogram of P-t curves of Escherichia coli.We determined Q (total heat production) as principal index by PCA. The results showed that the Q of Escherichia coli in ALRP+ZR and alkaloids+volatile oil administration groups markedly increased (P<0.01), compared with the Control.ConclusionThis paper, in view of both macroscopic integrated animal thermotropism behavior and microscopical microorganisms, researched the differences of cold and hot property of compatibility between Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Zingiberis Rhizoma at different components levels based on biothermodynamics. And it demonstrated the objective existence that ALRP plays fewer hot characteristics without ZR’s compatibility, and to some extent, it revealed that the concrete substance of their compatibility is alkaloids and volatile oil.
