Objective Analyze the incidence patterns in Fuzhou, and explore the related risk factors that affect the occurrence of thyroid cancer through the investigation and the statistical analysis of Fuzhou patients, for giving scientific evidence of prevention measures.Method(1) The data of thyroid cancer cases were report from hospitals, content of Incident Report Cards cover patient’s name, gender, birth date, permanent address, diagnosis, diagnostic basis, pathological type, date of diagnosis, etc. To calculate the crude rates, age-adjusted rates of the world standard population and age-specific rates. To compare the incidence in the different genders and areas of island, seaside and inland.(2) A 1:2 matched case-control study was carried out in Fuzhou including 123 cases with Thyroid cancer and 246 controls. Cases were chosen from hospital patients who had operated for Thyroid cancer. The matched controls were paired to cases with same gender, same address and age that younger or older 3 years old. Content of questionnaire cover general condition, life habit, contact of chemical substances, radiation, dietary habit, iodine intake, Family history of cancer, pressure, Women’s menstrual history, et al. Microsoft EXCEL software is adopted to establish the database, using SPSS18.0 software analysis data. Data were analyzed with Chi-square test and the conditional Logistic regression, then calculated the Odds Ratio and the 95% confidence.Result In Fuzhou, the incidence rate and standardized rate was 14.41/100,000 and 12.36/100,000 during 2008-2010. Corresponding standardized rate was 4.79/100,000 and 20.52/100,000 in male and female, respectively. Female-to-male incidence rate ratios was 4.33, average age of onset was 47.9 and 45.8 in male and female, respectively. The incidence of thyroid cancer in aged 45-49 reached the highest one. Papillary carcinoma accounted for 94.6% of all pathologic diagnosis. In the areas of island, seaside and inland in Fuzhou, The incidence and Papillary carcinoma percentage were different significantly. Through the Conditional logistic regression analysis we found that BMI>25, high pressure, CT scanning, first degree relative with thyroid cancer, secong-hand smoking, fried food and hair dye were the risk factors of thyroid cancer, while regular physical exercise was protective factors of thyroid cancer.Conclution Thyroid cancer incidence of Fuzhou was higher than the total level of national cancer registration area. Papillary carcinoma accounted for the proportion of the pathological diagnosis was higher, the incidence and Papillary carcinoma percentage showed a trend of decline in the areas of island, seaside and inland in Fuzhou. The occurrence of thyroid cancer in Fuzhou was up to high pressure, heredity, radiation and extrinsic chemical composition, etc. corresponding preventive measures should be carry out.
