Objective:The aim of this study was to describe differences between allergic and non-allergic asthma and investigate the risk factors associated with different kinds of asthma in adults. Methods:A total of 74 individuals had finished this study. Both of subjects were adults (≥ 18 years of age), who had diagnosed by respiratory physician, confirmed variable airflow obstruction (VAO) or airway hyper responsiveness (AHR) at screening visit. All participants were interviewed about demographics information, respiratory symptoms, Asthma Control Test, Asthma Control Questionnaire and furthermore full blood count, IgE, skin test reactivity, lung function, and induced sputum were measured. Results:A total of 74 individuals had clinical asthma of whom 33 individuals had allergic asthma, accounts for about 44.6%. Subjects with allergic asthma were more likely to be males (P=0.028), Subjects with allergic asthma had a significantly younger age (P=0.002) and a earlier onset of asthma (P=0.039) than non-allergic asthma. Of all allergic asthma, the total serum IgE levels (P=0.000) and the eosinophil percentage of plasma (p=0.043) were significantly higher than non-allergic asthma and also the eosinophil percentage of sputum (p=0.033).Single factor logistic regression analysis showed that compared with women, men had a significantly increased risk suffering from allergic asthma (OR=0.35, OR95%CI=[0.13,0.90],P=0.030),allergic asthma was also associated with a younger age (OR=0.94,95%CI=[0.90,0.98],P=0.006).006) and a earlier onset of asthma (OR=0.97, OR95%CI=[0.95,1.00], P=0.044). Multiariable logistic regression analysis showed that, allergic asthma was associated with man (OR=0.64, 95%CI=[0.49,0.83], P=0.001),a younger age (OR=0.99,95%CI=[0.98,1.00], P=0.005).005) and a lower smoking index (OR=0.99,95%CI=[0.98,1.00] P=0.045).Single factor logistic regression analysis showed that age was negatively correlated with eosinophils asthma (OR=0.92,95%CI=[0.84,1.00]), and eosinophils asthma were more likely to report a increased eosinophils percentage in the plasma (OR=3.36*1011,95%CI=[1736.38,6.51*1019], P=0.006) and be positive skin prick test (OR=6.00,95%CI=[1.01,35.72], P=0.049). Multiariable logistic regression analysis also showed that eosinophils asthma was associated with a positive skin prick test (OR=19.84,95%CI=[1.51,260.63], P=0.023) and a increased eosinophils percentage in the plasma (OR=1.20*1016,95%CI= [26765.77, 5.35*1027], P=0.007)Conclusion:We conclude that there are significant difference between non-allergic asthma and allergic asthma on sex, age, the age of onset, the total serum IgE levels, the eosinophil percentage of plasma and the eosinophil percentage of sputum. Women, an older age and a higher smoking index had a significantly increased risk suffering from non-allergic asthma. A positive skin prick test and a increased eosinophil percentage of plasma are supposed to concerning risk factors associated with eosinophilic asthma.
