Backgrounds and Objectives:The Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Symdrome is one of common sleep breathing diseases, which could induce many systematic diseases, like hypertension, coronary heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, stroke, seriously affects the quality of life of patients.According to the epidemiological survey, the incidence of OSAHS in middle-aged population was 2%~4%. A large number of studies have indicated that the activation of oxidative stress pathway and the production of related inflammatory factors may play important roles in the pathogenesis of OSAHS.By studying the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-alpha(HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) In the soft palate of patients with OSAHS,we hope to figure out the correlationship between expression of HIF-1α VEGF and the pathogenesisIn the soft palate of OSAHS.Method:The HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes. The immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expressions of HIF-1α and VEGF in the soft palate of 30cases of OSAHS(experiment group) and 6 cases of tonsillectomy(control group).Result:1.HE staining showed that the epithelial hyperplasia of the soft palate in the experimental group, thickening of the lamina propria, muscle fibers showed various degrees of degeneration, disordered muscle fibers, angiogenesis exists.2.The immunohistochemical staining results showed that HIF-1 alpha overexpressed in squamous epithelial basal and spinous layer cells in OSAHS moderate and severe groups, positive expression which located in nucleus and cytoplasm was brown. The soft palate tissue mucosa squamous epithelial basement layer and stratum spinosum cell cytoplasm was strong positive expression of VEGF in moderate and severe OSAHS groupspalate.VEGF has a focal positive expression in glandular epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells.3.HIF-1α, VEGF was positively correlated with sleep apnea hypopnea index (AHI) (P< 0.05), and negatively correlated with the lowest nocturnal oxygen saturation (P< 0.01).Conclusion:The pathological changes of soft palate tissue of patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndromeand are highly correlated with degree of hypoxia, HIF-laand VEGF may play an important role in the process of its occurrence and development.
