Euphorbia lunulata Bge, one of the species of Euphorbia, is a perennial herb which mainly distributed in the northeast and northern China. It has been used for the treatment of expectorant, antitussive, antiasthmatic and antiitch sida for thousands years, but previous researches concentrated on the flavonoid compounds. In order to a comprehensive exploration of the active constituents of E. lunulata, this thesis focuses on the chemical investigation and activity research of several compounds of E. lunulata.Systematical chemical investigation of the species was carried out. Twenty-two compounds were isolated among which nineteen compounds were identified by chemical and spectroscopic mothord. they were 1-octacosanol(EL-01), β-sitosterol(EL-02), octadecyl caffeate(EL-03), cycloart-23Z-en-3β,25-diol(EL-04), kaempferol(EL-05), scopoletion(EL-06), ferulic acid hexacosyl ester(EL-07),3,5,7-trihydroxy-8-methoxylflavone(EL-08), stigmaster(EL-09), vifolin(EL-10),o-phthalic acid bis-(2-ethyl decyl)-ester(EL-11), 24-methylenecycloartanol(EL-12),scopoletin-7-glucoside(EL-13), β-amyrin(EL-14), gallic acid(EL-15), sucrose(EL-16), 17-hxdroxyjolkinolide A(EL-18), jolkinolide A(EL-20), jolkinolide B(EL-22). Among them, EL-01, EL-03, EL-07, EL-08, EL-10, EL-11, EL-13, EL-14,EL-16, EL-18, EL-20, EL-22 were isolated from this plant for the first time.A preliminary study of biological activity of several compounds from E. lunulata was carried out. The compounds were be test the in vitro cytotoxicity activities against A549 cancer cell lines and DU145 cancer cell lines. The effects of compounds on human cancer cell growth, expressed as the IC50 value, for the two cancer cell lines, different compounds showed different growth inhibitory effects, specifically,for A549 cancer cell lines, EL-12 was the most potent with the IC50 value of 218.15μΜ, for A549 cancer cell lines, EL-22 was the most potent with the IC50 value of180.25 μΜ.
