This thesis focuses on the forming process of Yi Bingshou’s calligraphic style, who was a great master of Clerical Style in Qing dynasty.By looking on the calligraphic environment of Qianjia periods, the thesis gets a rule of multi-dimension calligraphic style from studying on Yi Bingshou’s learning senses and discussing internal and external factors respectively. Three chapters have been divided in this thesis:the first chapter discusses characteristics of Clerical style’s resurgence in Qianjia periods, in which the new calligraphic types rise sharply such as Couplets, Horizontal inscribed boards, and the requirements of a new calligraphic style were put forward accordingly. Besides, the preface and postscript for epigraphy, painting and calligraphy works became an important communication way among the literate persons and then an intense calligraphic atmosphere was created subsequently. The second chapter mainly goes into the Yi Bingshou’s calligraphic process from the copy to creation, and then discusses his learning senses. The third chapter analyzes the evaluation of calligraphy which was proposed by the later generations and the influence of Chinese calligraphy which was mainly affected by Yi Bingshou.This thesis holds that the forming of a unique calligraphic style is the fruit which was proposed in an new requirements of times and combined with personal comprehensive knowledge and effort.
