The thought of Mohist Mingbian is the typical representation of Chinese ancient logic.Logic is a product of culture. The development of social production status and natural scienceduring the Warring States Period provided the background of the thought of Mohist Mingbian.And the accumulations of theory of pre-Qin thinkers about the thought of Mingbian consist ofits intellectual context. The basic elements of the thought of Mohist Mingbian include name,phrases proposition,explanation and disputation,and the basic rules which must be followedin debate. The thought of Mohist names expounded the essence of name, which classifiedname from different angles. It raised the thought that name should correspond to its nature,and to rectify name with definition and division. The Mohist phrases proposition theoryproposed that reason, principle and category are the basis of phrases proposition, whichexplaining the properties and classifications of phrases propositions, meanwhile analyzing thecontradictory relation between phrases propositions. The theory of Mohist indicates that thepurpose of explanation is to find reasons. It analyzed different ways of inference, and revealedthe purpose, essence, standard and principle of disputation. The cultural specifics of pre-Qinare recognized as the source of the unique thought of Mohist Mingbian. The political andmoral culture of China made the thought of Mohist Mingbian is utilitarian, which embodingthe characteristics of homeliness, intuition and comprehensiveness. Meanwhile, certainlogical types could also influence the development of culture. The thought of MohistMingbian is an important component of Chinese traditional culture, and affected Chinesetraditional culture profoundly. Meanwhile it made up for the lack of Confucianism, also madea contribution to the development of Chinese science.
