Research On Zhang Shizhao’s Mingbian Thought

Zhang Shizhao is a logician in Chinese modern and contemporary history.In thebook of The Main Points of Logic,he withed "European logic as the warp and weft ofthe state Natori", by means of a parallel comparison to Chinese and Western logicfor the integrated,and set up his own Mingbian logical system. This will not only getrid of the shackles of the "analogies" research of Chinese and Western, but also tofurther promote the development of the comparison of Chinese and Western logic.On the basis of Western logic, Zhang Shizhao had a further understanding of“Ming”. He thought that the "Ming"was that the matter played its perception, memory,imagination, constituting the result of intended phase,but also it was “propername”based on “Shi”.And according the concept classification of Western logic,hedivided “Ming” into private term and public term,public term and collective term,positive term and negative term,negative term and privative term and absolute termand relative term.For the “proposition”,he believed that it was not only including thenature and classification of “proposition” from Mohist Canon, but also theopposition and contraposition were the scope of “proposition”.And as for the“inference”,he believed that the syllogism was the most common form. By means ofcomparing the syllogism with the "three monogatari" of logic of Mohism and theIndian hetuvidya, he concluded that them had both similarities and differences.Hepointed out that "paradox" was also an important part of logic.To this end, he had asystematic research on the Aristotle’s theory of fallacy and Muller five squares.Thisnot only enriched the theory of fallacy, but also it laid the foundation for the furtherstudy of fallacy.In a word, comparing with the same period logician,which Zhang Shizhaoconstructed his own Mingbian logical system through the Western tradition of formallogic system did not fall into a simple comparison of the cliche, and he captured thedifference between the logical link between China and the West, which makes itsdialectics not only coherent and West, but with Chinese characteristics.
