A Survey Of Ku Chieh-kang’s "Stratification" Theory

Ku Chiehkang, the founder of China’s Gushi Bian faction, who put forward uniqueperspectives that "stratification" theory in1923and created the new approaches to the studyof the ancient history, has a great influence on the development of Chinese academic. Thisarticle has carried on the preliminary discussion according to the thought origin, academicmethod and historical thinking and its influence to the contemporary academic of the theoryof "stratification".The new history perspective put forward by Ku Chiehkang, is the critical inheritance ofthe result of predecessors’ identifying fake, in the education and the cultivation of traditionalculture. Under the influence of the may fourth movement, the general mood of societyopened, and the free and open ideological trend in academic prevailed. Under the support andguidance of Hu shi and Qian Xuantong, Ku Chiehkang raise doubt about the old ancienthistory system,"stratification" theory bore. In terms of methodology,"stratification" theory ismainly formed with three aspects:"The historical evolution system","The vision of story ","The pseudo history displacement system ". The theory of "stratification" contained theconcept of evolution, the spirit of doubt and the historical thinking of attaching greatimportance to the historical data. Ku Chiehkang history perspective caused great sensationimmediately as soon as proposed. Researchers passed different judgments on it. But as timegoes on, the academic influence of Ku Chiehkang is still significant in the contemporary era.After entering1990s, Li Xueqin put forward the slogan of "transcending the era of doubtabout the ancient ", challenging Ku.Chiehkang It caused the discussion on "transcending theera of doubt about the ancient ".Researchers has certainly questioning and criticism on it. KuChiehkang’s critical spirit of daring to challenge the authority, is also a lack of contemporaryacademia. So Ku Chiehkang’s influence on the contemporary academic is significant.Further study of Ku Chiehkang,a scholar who has important influence on Chinesemodern academic history, helps us to grasp of the academic development clues of China. Andthe current academic research on Ku Chiehkang is not so good from the dept and breadth. Asthe publication of more works, notes, diaries and letters of Ku Chiehkang,we look forward to find more deepened academic research of him.
