Cultural transformation refers that a kind of fundamental change anddevelopment of a specific culture based on the great changes of the economic basis, social politics, etc. Its modern transformation is a historical and overall surpassing ofthe traditional culture, and a dialectical negation of the old culture. Xinjiang, with avast territory and many ethnic groups, is a pool of multi-cultures. And its culturalpower determines the essence of the economic and social developments. This studynot only helps to provide intellectual support for pushing the great-leap-forward andlong stability of Xinjiang, but also helps to develop its ethnic traditional cultures, push forward the harmonious and sustainable development of the ethnic and borderregions in Xinjiang and the progress of the advanced socialist culture, and enhancethe coherence of the Chinese nation. The paper, with the starting point of the connation and essence of culture and itsmodern transformation and the basis of the transformation of the ethnic cultures inXinjiang, analyzes their diverse and harmonious coexistence manifested from theirlocality, diversity, inheritance, and tolerance, and proposes that taking the modernculture as the lead to promote the cultural transformation is not only an importantcondition for the social transformation in Xinjiang ethnic groups, but a basicapproach and a realizing process to push its leap-forward and long stability. Second, from the levels of theory, reality, and the tendency of modernization, the paperanalyzes and holds that the inevitability of the Xinjiang ethnic cultures’ moderntransformation is formed by the material basis provided by the economic and socialdevelopment, the theoretical basis provided by the scientific outlook of development, and the inevitable choice of its modern development and transformation with thebackground of the globe, and studies the series of challenges facing its moderntransformation such as the impact of the living environment of national culture, thepenetration of the “three evils” at home and abroad in ideology, and the ethniccultural value conflicts in Xinjiang. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a moderntransformation for its culture. But, Xinjiang ethnic cultures’ modern transformation isa systemic project. It is necessary to take the modern culture as its lead, get down towith it from the constructions of material civilization, advanced socialist culture, andthe cultural soft power in Xinjiang, promote the optimization and upgrading of theindustries’ structures in Xinjiang, reform the institutions of its market economy under the government’s control, accelerate the integration of the urban and ruraldevelopments, practice the core socialist values, resist the penetration of the “threeevils” into the ideology in Xinjiang, carry forward the “Xinjiang Spirit”, create asound environment for the cultural industries in Xinjiang, promote the “bilingual”education in Xinjiang, and make innovations in its cultural institutions andmechanisms.Culture is the root of a nation. The rejuvenation and uprising of a nation’sculture play a crucial role in the nation’s rejuvenation and uprising. The rejuvenationand development of the traditional cultures are realized in the process ofmodernization. The power of which is regained from the accumulation of thetraditional cultures. Xinjiang is a strategic place in China. In the process of itsleap-forward and long stability, its ethnic traditional cultures urgently need moderntransformation to construct a common spiritual homeland for all the ethnic groups inXinjiang.
