International generic name taboo word for “Taboo”(Chinese literally translated as “塔布”,“禁忌”,Mongolian “Цээр г”) The term was originally a Polynesian Tongan, taboomeans “Sacred”,“Can not say”,“Do not touch”. Taboo is not only a part of verbalcommunication, but also intercultural communication’s sensitive issue. Therefore, not only inChina but also other countries attach great importance to the use of taboo words.Various ethnic cultures have different taboos, especially for people in dailycommunication in cross-cultural communication, we have to take this issue seriously.Communication from different cultural backgrounds, the two sides should pay attention to theprocess of intercultural communication similarities and differences between ethnic andcultural backgrounds. China and Mongolia has a long history and cultural similarities.However, because of some historical conflict, customs of two countries and culturaldifferences, there are also some differences. We should understand each other’s cultural tabooto avoid misunderstandings and ensure the smooth realization of communication to achievethe purpose of communication. Therefore, the study of taboo words in cross-culturalcommunication has very important role and significance. In this paper, after studyingMongolian and Chinese Taboos in-depth to explore, we tried to give better understandingabout the unique ethnic Mongolian and Chinese cultural characteristics and its causes,contribution to the Mongolian Chinese Taboos’ similarities and differences, and evenMongolian language and culture between the two countries formed a deep understanding andknowledge.In accordance with the research of Mongolian and Chinese Taboo words, we dividedtaboo words of Mongolian and Chinese to explore similarities and differences between themand culture. Moreover, we conducted a survey between students who study in China fromMongolia to identify their understanding on Chinese Taboo words and explore misuse of thewords and communication barriers arising because of taboo words. Based on the surveyresults presented from the perspective of taboo words, we suggested interculturalcommunicative competence recommendations. Cultural communication is an important partof modern communication, if we can learn more about the phenomenon of language taboos, to quote; do as the Romans quote; it will reduce communication errors to the lowest point, sothat cross-cultural communication is more decent. In intercultural communication process, toget rid of some of the stereotypes of each other, each other’s’ language taboos maintain arespectful attitude, do not easily criticize others.In this thesis, we hope to help to improve intercultural communicative competencerelevant population and reduce conflicts of intercultural communication, and hope to promotemutual communication between China and Mongolia.
