James O Conner is one of the most important representatives of contemporary ecology ofthe Marx doctrine. His masterpiece is the Reason for Nature—Ecology of Marx doctrine withthe main theory idea that productivity and production relations are given the new theory, culture is transformed by nature and traditional social labor is transformed by nature andculture. Based on this point, three-in-one between nature, social labor and culture is proposed.O Conner also points out that ecology must be established on the basis of Marx theory. Thestarting point for this argument is that this ecology criticizing y is not only the aspects ofexploitation, but also reflected in nature criticizing. O Conner emphasizes that this kind ofecology view is based on the Marx doctrine, especially Marx’s theory of the new supersedingthe old for man and nature. O Conner includes these practical problems as "socialism andnatural","capitalism and nature" and "the Marx doctrine and the ecology movement" into hisown research perspective, analyzes with Marx theory and improves Marx Theory. He relatesecology with the political issues, points out that we should establish a new social pattern ofecological socialism which is beyond the contemporary capitalism and the present socialismand where man and nature live in a harmony. Eco-socialism ideology advocated by O Connerwhich combines socialism with green movement and ecological movement organically, differs from the traditional socialist theory, thus O Conner has given new connotation tosocialism and gives a political significance of productive justice-oriented ecological socialismto ecology. O Conner creatively applies Marx’s theory of capital and logically criticizesmodern capitalist mode of production, which mainly focuses on capital&nature and capital&ecosystem. Based on the above, the cause of ecological crisis in globalization era isrevealed and the intrinsic link between capitalist mode of production and the ecological crisisis pointed out. O Conner’s theory is unique, but it also has its own limitations such as thedefects of capital and natural theory and the one-sidedness of unilateral double crisis and dualcontradiction. In my opinion, O Conner’s theory is different from the classic historicmaterialism. His ecology Maxims, especially the theory of capital and natural, overflows thebasic framework of Marx’s theory of capital. Objectively speaking, O Conner’s theory ofcapital and nature not only has the certain innovation significance but also has a strongpractical critical, which makes us have a new understanding of the contemporary capitalistsociety in the light of development, improve he contemporary development of the Marxdoctrine, explore which road to go for socialism, construct a society of environment-resourcessaving and environmental friendship and promote ecological civilization.
