According to the constituent elements of the discourse of poetry, this paper willdelve into the discourse analysis of Chartist poetry. Specifically such discourseanalysis further aims to explore namely the context where such Chartist poetrydiscourse appears, the cause why it emerges, the subjects who carries it out, thecontents it expresses, and the methodology it adopts. As a kind of discourse, Chartistpoetry discourse is the product of the kaleidoscope19th century, which ushers in thecrystallization of various factors colliding with each other. These storming factors areclosely related including the education views, books production, books publishing andliterature development. In terms of discourse subjects, out of identity anxiety, thesubjects of discourse have shaped the self identities objectively through discoursepractices. In the light of discourse contents, the subjects of discourse, as theperformers of the zeitgeist, confronting with the bleak life, have written their survivalexperiences. In the aspect of ideological work, with the help of poetic expressions,Chartists poetry has combined the aesthetic with the political, and has undertaken theactive function of language. Among them, the images of Chartists poetry imply theideology, which gets involved and intervened in the image selecting, defining, anddetermining in nature. The discourse of Chartist poetry is the common voice not only uttered from theworking classes but also from the Charter poets sharing the similar life experiences. Itis the real expression of the rock-bottom, erasing the cracks between the subjectsand the working classes subjects in the previous literature.
