The Sino-Canada relations is one of the most friendly bilateral relations betweenChina and Western countries. However, as Canada is an important member of theWestern developed countries, its relations with China will inevitably be affected byother Western countries, particularly the countries which has complex conflictinginterests with China, such as the United States and Japan. Therefore, the study of theimpact of a third country, especially a major power, on China-Canada relations is ofgreat significance. As the most important neighbor of China, Japan has developed a particularlycomplex relationship with China in the past more than twenty years after the end ofthe Cold War. The two neighbors are not only dependent on each other, but competewith each other as well.At least since the Koizumi era, the general trend of Sino-Japanrelations have become more competitive rather than more interdependent.China isnow Canada’s second largest trading partner, and the relations between the twocountries develops very well.Japan and Canada have a close relationship as early asduring the Cold War, and they also have a very good development trend. In thiscontext, what kind of impacts on Sino-Canada relations will Japan factors produce inthe end? This is the question the paper attempts to answer. This paper selects a particular angle—the cultural perspective to explore thisissue and the time is selected so far in the post-Cold War period. From the researchperspective, the study of Japan factors’ impacts on the Post-Cold War Sino-Canadarelationship from a cultural perspective, belongs to the originality of the work to fillthe academic gaps, because there is no specialized research concerns such a subject uptill now either at home or abroad. The research methods of the literature study andprojections are mainly used in this paper. By analyzing the relationship between thecultural background of China, Japan and Canada and their diplomatic behaviors, thispaper expounds some regular diplomatic trends and general laws based on respectivecultural backgrounds of the three countries. On the basis of logical analysis andempirical study, the article derive and summarize different results in different period of the Sino-Canadian relation which generated by the Japanese factor in the post-ColdWar. In the early period of post-Cold War, Japan factors mainly played a positive role, while since the entry of the21st century, Japan has been a negative effect and is likelyto continue for a long period of time in the future.According to the cultural characteristics of the three countries as well as the theirinteraction based on this cultural backround, this article proposes specificcountermeasures for China. On the one hand, China should actively develop friendlyand mutually beneficial relations with Canada; on the other hand, China shouldsteadily promote the modernization, enhance the comprehensive national strength, and finally digestion the negative impacts from Japan factors on Sino-Canadarelations.
