With intercultural communication surging and China’s international standingrising, video clips for international publicity play an important role in culturaltransmission and economic development. Hence, many a translation researcher paysattention to the subtitle translation of video clips for international publicity. Mostscholars have studied subtitle translation of documentaries for international publicityproduced by the central government, but few have researched the ones made by thelocal government. This thesis focuses on subtitle translation of video clips forinternational publicity from the perspective of the Skopos theory with An AncientCapital and A City of Natural Beauty as a case. Starting from the features of subtitletranslation, the author compares films and video clips for international publicity aswell as documentaries for international publicity and video clips for internationalpublicity. The author then concludes the features of video clips for internationalpublicity. Finally, the author proposes the subtitle translation methods, such asrestructuring, reduction and reductive paraphrase.
