With the popularity of internet and the increasingly frequent academic exchanges between China and the other countries,most Chinese people can access to high-quality educational resources.And video courses gradually play an important role in the culture and education diffusion.Yale University,Harvard University,and many other top universities have provided video courses on internet for everyone.The subtitle translation of video courses gives more people access to higher education.In addition,the correct subtitle translation can help the audiences understand the courses better and get the correct information.However,these high-quality video courses have not been translated very well,and the quality of translation cannot be guaranteed.Although there is lots of foreign studies on subtitle translation,most of them are about TV programmes and films.Studies on the subtitle translation of video courses are preliminary.Thus,we need to explore translating methods of this type based on its characteristics.This thesis takes the subtitle translation of video course Magazine Layout Design as the research material,and takes Skopos theory as its theoretical guidance.Through the analysis of the source text and the translation practice,the author encountered some difficulties.Firstly,the speaker uses the oral languages to teach the professional knowledges.Secondly,there are some long sentences in the source text,but the time and space are limited for subtitles.In view of these problems,the author searched relevant literature for comparative analysis,and proposed some translation techniques that could be adopted in the actual subtitle translation process,such as addition,omission,division,and free translation.Through the analysis of cases in this translation practice,it summarizes the characteristics of subtitles of video course and the features of its translation,discusses the solutions to the problems that encountered in the translation,and mentions the skills that used to deal with the difficulties.With this thesis,the author wants to provide some suggestions for subtitle translation of video course.
