As one of the oldest forms of human artistic presentation, ornament is the wayto express beauty in the human real life, as well as the method to master the world inaesthetic way. The Mongol nationality epitomizes the prairie culture of Mongolia.Their nomadic production mode offers them the cultural tradition and aestheticalstandard that different from other nations. Thus, the unique decorative pattern artsgenerate.Mongol decorative patterns can be considered as the part of traditional Mongolculture, with abundant connotation, themes of wide range and distinct nationalfeatures. Its formation, development and maturity are inseparable from theenvironment, historic culture and aesthetic requirements of Mongolia. In this paper,through the analysis of regional culture features, historical development, religiousfactor and aesthetic psychology of the life in Mongolia, the reason and process of theformation, evolution and development of traditional decorative patterns of Mongoliaare discussed. Through the analysis of classification and presentation modes oftraditional decorative patterns of Mongolia, the cultural connotation is deeplyexcavated, and their aesthetic orientation is analyzed. Thus, artistic rules of thedecorative patterns of Mongolia are summarized. Finally, by studying on the relationbetween the decorative patterns of Mongolia and modern design, try to find therevelation and reference brought from the decorative patterns of Mongolia for, aswell as enrichment and development of modern design for traditional patterns.The purpose of research on the decorative patterns of Mongolia is not only torecognize and understand, but also to use on the basis of grasping artistic rules.Therefore, through the summary of national cultural tradition, customs and designideas of the traditional decorative patterns of Mongolia, to provide inspiration sourceand useful reference for modern design.
