With the advent of the era of globalization, tourism plays an increasinglyimportant role in the economic and cultural development. China is endowed with vastland and rich tourism resources, which is desirable for the development of the tourismindustry. In recent years, attracted by Chinese cultural attractions, a large number offoreign tourists flock to China. The rapid development of the tourism industry alsomakes us realize that the tourism translation should play its role as a bridge in thefuture to promote tourism in our country and disseminate Chinese culture.However, the current situation of the tourism translation quality is far from good,which seriously affects the foreign visitors’ understanding of Chinese culture andhistory. At the same time, it is not conducive to the development of China’s tourismindustry.Functionalist translation theory has brought a lot of inspiration to our tourismintroduction text translation. It proposes that the target text’s function and purposeshould be realized among the target readers. Since Chinese tourism introduction textsare endowed with various styles and beauty forms, it is necessary to combinefunctionalist theory and aesthetic translation thought in C-E translation of tourismintroduction texts.The author visited popular attractions in Xi’an to collect first-hand information ontourism translation. And she also collected data from other origins like network, booksand other media. Based on these data, tourism introduction text translation problemsare studied, and then some feasible translation strategies, like supplement, analogy,transcription plus explanation, and deletion, are put forward in this paper.It concludes that it is a good solution to supplement the functionalist theory withaesthetic translation thoughts in the C-E translation of tourism introduction texts (TITs)under the guidance of proper translation strategies.Despite the tentativeness of this research, it is bound to provide some inspirationand reference for the formation of high-quality tourism text translation. It is believed that to improve the quality of tourism text translation will have a far-reaching impactin establishing a good international image of our country and expanding tourismindustry of our country in the international tourism market.
