On Strategies For Translating Chinese Tourism Texts Under The Guidance Of Functionalist Translation Theory

Due to the continuous development of tourism,the translation of tourism text plays an increasingly important role.However,there are still many problems in translating tourism texts,such as inaccurate translation,over-literal translation or mistranslation.This not only ignores the intended function and purpose of tourism texts but also hinders the publicity of tourism resources.Therefore,the translation of tourism texts needs to be studied in depth under the guidance of translation theory,in expectation of putting forward practical translation strategies to further guide and improve the translation.Breaking through traditional linguistic school's restrictions on form and equivalence,Functionalist Translation Theory stresses the realization of translation purpose and translation function.It advocates that translation is not only a transformation of linguistic symbols but also a comprehensive communicative process involving the recipient of the target language.The translation of tourism texts is mainly for overseas tourists.Therefore,under the guidance of this theory,translators can adopt more effective translation strategies.Taking the tour-guide commentary of Baili Rhododendron Scenic Spot as an example,this thesis explores strategies for translating tourism texts under the guidance of Functionalist Translation Theory by examples,aiming to provide a reference for translating tourism texts.The author of this thesis first summarizes previous studies on Functionalist Translation Theory and on translation of tourism texts,and points out its shortcomings.Furthermore,she presents the main thoughts of Functionalist Translation Theory,and analyses the functional and linguistic features of the original text.The author puts forward specific translation strategies under the guidance of Functionalist Translation Theory considering his own translation practice: the first is to determine translation strategies according to the type of text,such as reproducing message faithfully or rewriting;the second is to choose translation strategies according to the intended purpose of the translation,such as paraphrasing or omitting verses,generalizing specific expressions and transliterating proper nouns;the third is to take tourists as thecenter to determine translation strategies,such as adding logical words,adding explanatory information and using plain English.Through the analysis of specific examples,this thesis aims to provide guidance for translating tourism texts and promote the improvement of translation quality.
