Political news serves as a vital channel through which government and thegeneral public are timely informed of the latest information. Lately, political newstranslation has aroused the interest of scholars and translators because news playssuch an indispensable role in our society that its translation must be cautiously dealtwith.Translation has always been under the constraints of a series of factors such aslingual and cultural ones. There is no exception to political news translation. Forpolitical texts, the only difference lies in its high sensitiveness and political tendencies. Therefore, there is necessity to identify elements that influence political newstranslation in particular and probe into the ways they work in practice, which are alsothe main research questions and focuses in this study.Bassnett and Lefevere brought up the idea of “rewriting” in the late20th centuryand are among the first group of scholars who connect translation with culture to seetranslation beyond the level of language. In a series of books compiled, they make theidea clear that all kinds of translation are rewriting, which is constantly restrained byfactors like ideology, patronage and poetics. That is to say, some factors are workingbehind to manipulate news translation, but what are they? How does suchmanipulation work in specific translation practice?Inspired by the popularity of political news translation and the spread of“manipulation” theory, the author feels the necessity to combine the two and prove thetheory with authentic materials. Since “poetics” does not influence political newstranslation as deeply as “ideology” and “patronage” do, it is not covered. Instead, thespecific ways that manipulate news translation are identified. To solve the problem ofstrong manipulation in news texts, the author finally puts forward three correspondingmeasures, which are selective, compiled and substitutive translation. Supported byspecific examples and thorough analysis, the answers to three research questions aredetected and hold the water.
