Translation Strategies For Political News Based On Manipulation Theory

In the background of global economic development, the western media with its abundant capital and professional news reporters gradually control the global sources of news information. They are leading the trend of world opinion. Nowadays, China’s economic development is rapid, news is increasingly valuable, and China gradually becomes the world’s media hot spot. The western mainstream media is very concerned about the growing international influence of China, and they spare lot of effort to report all aspects of social life about China, especially for which is different from western values. The western media is from their own position to review the whole reports. And these reports of Chinese society in the world not only affect the image of China, also may mislead the readers.American talk show is one of the important types of TV program. The charm of the talk show is the way of conveying information to the audience. This paper selects the Daily Show as a case to study the report of China in American talk show. The show is also one of the important sources of political news among many young Americans.Guided by the manipulation theory, this study selects examples from the Daily Show from 2014 to 2015; with the help of these examples, it is approved that ideology, poetics and patronage affect the political news translation. On this basis, this paper further puts forward that in political news translation, translators should comply with the mainstream ideology, poetics and patronage requirements. Also, translators need to hold a certain position and attitude in order to maintain their own voice.
