For a long time, translation has been studied by scholars just as a linguistic phenomenon. Traditional translation studies have been considered a literal transformation process between two languages—the source language and the target language, which lay emphasis on the text comparison, the establishment and observation of translation standards instead of further probing into the goals and functions of translation. It is not only information that language carries, but also culture it carries. Ideology has always influenced translation; however, the deeper research in this respect hadn't been carried out until the emergence of "cultural turn" in translation studies. As a distinguished representative of "cultural school" in translation studies, Andre Lefevere has put forward the concepts of "translation as rewriting" and "translation as manipulation", arguing that translations are not made in a vacuum; instead, they are products of history, society and culture. So translations have become to be taken from a cultural and political angle, and they are bound to be manipulated by ideology. In the present-day world, more than 80% of news comes out and spreads in English. To us Chinese, it's not an easy task to gain abundant international news and information directly from the source news. Therefore, it is necessary to study English-Chinese news translation. As we can find, it is almost political news that occupies the biggest share of the media. And the distinctive feature of political news is "political", so the publications and translations of political news are closely related to the ideological manipulation. So, selection of "the English-Chinese political news translation" as research object is of great significance. This thesis lays great emphasis on the study of how ideology manipulates on English-Chinese (short as "E-C" in the thesis) political news translation in cultural perspective by analyzing several typical examples and probing into how to react to and deal with the ideological influence during the translation process in detail. The examples of English political news are selected from the well-known western media; the author marks up the places where ideology manipulates and gives a detailed analysis of them, and then puts forward some strategies and techniques to properly deal with the translation. Here, in the case study section, the author doesn't analyze the whole news but chooses the places where ideological manipulation takes place. Accordingly, the reference Chinese versions in the appendix are extracted from authoritative Chinese media which is also representative of E-C political news translation that can properly handle the ideological manipulation in the translations.Through the thesis study, we can find that the output and publication of the original text is greatly affected by ideology; and translation is not only a literal transformation between two languages, but also strongly influenced by political and cultural factors, and in this thesis the emphasis lies in the translators'own ideology and the ideology imposed on translators by the patronage. Because of the "political" characteristic, the translation of political news is more representative in this ideological aspect. Therefore, proper strategies and skills in correspondence with ideological manipulation should also be taken into account when translating political news, apart from the linguistic aspects.
