A Practice Report On Cave Of Discovery

This translation practice came from one of the translation assignments from professorZhang. The analytic target is a part of a fantasy novel named Cave of Discovery,whichbelongs to children’s literature. After I handed up the translation, I get the reviews fromprofessor Zhang that the translation work is word fluency and loyal to the original one butneed to get an improvement in word choosing and modifying.This translation practice report is a short introduction, analysis and summery for mytranslation practice Cave of Discovery. This report consists of five major parts,including taskdescription, procedure description, preparation before translation, case analysis and summery&conclusion. Task description and procedure description give an brief introduction about thetext quality and main content of this article and a short summery about the preparation,procedure and revise stage of the task. The preparation before translation part offers ananalysis about the general stylistic features and diction of fantasy novels which belongs tochildren’s literature and the specific linguistic features of the original text. Case study is theessence part of this report. In this part, a preliminary exploration is made in accordance withconcrete sentences, from four aspect: the translation of worlds’ level,the translation ofsentences’ level, the translation of syntagm’s level and the translation of figures of speech.This report has a primary investigation and further exploration of the translation of fantasynovels. The fifth part gives a short summary and conclusion of this report.Through thistranslation practice, I get deeper understanding of the integrity concept of translation and thecompensation and flexible way of translation. At the same time, I get an improvement in thetranslation skills of the words,sentences and syntagms.
