Plant Metaphor In Modern Uygur Language

Metaphor is not only a figure of speech, but also a cognitive phenomenon. Plantmetaphor refers to that the people project characteristics of plants onto targetdomain-----“person”,“concrete things” and “abstract things”, so as to understandcomplex, abstract and unfamiliar concepts. The appearing of plant metaphor is aresult of people’s familiarity and understanding in plants’ characteristics andfunctions. Based on the theory of Cognitive Science of Metaphor, the thesisclassifies the source domain and target domain of plant metaphor in Uygur languageby collecting examples of plant metaphor in Uyghur proverbs, idioms and poems.The thesis also analyzes the working mechanics and features of plant metaphor inUygur language.The thesis analyzes plant metaphor in Uygur language from the perspective ofCognitive Science of Metaphor. It provides a new angle for the research of plantmetaphor in Uygur language from two points. One is that the thesis deepens people’scognition in the theory of metaphor; the other is that the thesis gets across Uighurpeople’s characteristics of cognitive thinking to some degree. The thesis helps tofurther understand Uighur people’s customs, traditional culture and aesthetic taste.
