| Jingdezhen, a city has been engaged in ceramic production for eighteen hundredyears. Until the early1990s, porcelain production still is the main pillar industry ofthe city. Time flies, Jingdezhen has experienced the Tang and Song blue and whiteporcelain production, the Yuan blue and white porcelain and underglaze red porcelainproduction, Ming exquisitely wrought blue and white porcelain and ceramicpolychrome Dou production, Qing five ceramic blue and white, Lang kiln red, andpastels production, Jianguo porcelain of the early foundation of China, ceramic art,daily use porcelain, and country gift porcelain production. Today a lot of newtechnology, new materials, new forms, and new varieties have emerged in the era ofreform, booming in the opening up opportunities. After1995, by the impact of marketeconomy, state-owned porcelain have disintegrated, Jingdezhen went to the trough.Porcelain craft and level of development has been stuck in the workshops, from then,Jingdezhen porcelain production can’t be the major pillar of the economy. With thegradual decline of the mass production of porcelain, small workshops and privateenterprises continued to maintain Jingdezhen porcelain production. Although the skillis constantly evolving, those ancient and modern porcelain production monumentshave gradually fade out of sight, even some are completely disappeared in the cityconstruction. In recent years, Handmade Porcelain Art Heritage Protection Centerwas established and Ancient kilns were burned again in Ancient Kiln Folk ExhibitionArea. Porcelain cultural production and research base, like Sanbao InternationalCeramics Village, was opening to outside world. Jingdezhen porcelain mark hasgradually returned to the people’s sight. On this occasion, I visited the majorhistorical and cultural sites in the old city area of Jingdezhen, to look over the existingstatus of those sites, and made recommendations for their protection and utilization. |
