The intercultural communication between countries and regions has keptgrowing currently. An interpreter can bequalified only when he or she proves to be a competent intercultural communicator. This thesis is a report base on the Lancaster University Study Tour Program of2013in which the author had participated. In the program, the author acted as a dualrole of both interpreter and assistant, providing language assistance for the delegationof Lancaster University. During the3-week activities, the author completed variousinterpreting practice. In this thesis cases from Guangzhou city tour and a lecture onChinese traditional art have been analyzed under the theory of interculturalcommunication competence including definitions, components, and tactics to improve.Among them the components are motivation, knowledge, skills, sensitivity andcharacter. But above all, the importance rests on the fact that the interpreter is able torecognize clearly about the competence and seek the coping strategies to improvethrough the practical experience of the author. The program between Lancaster University and GDUFS is promising, and it isthe author’s sincere hope to take the perspective of intercultural communicationcompetence, and make a difference for the successors of the program.
