Misunderstanding Financial Crises: Why Don’t We See Them Coming is a book abouteconomics and finance. In this book, the author Gray B. Gorton analyzes some deeper reasonsas to why people misunderstood financial crises. The author’s main point is that peopleshould take a historical attitude towards the crises to learn the financial crises from the historyand to be more aware of the future crises. The writer mentioned in the text that credit boom isa significant sign of crises. While nowadays, credit cards and consumption by installment arebecoming increasingly popular. So people should be more serious about the credit. Thetranslator chooses this book to translate because he wants to know more about the financialcrises, to learn more about how to avoid crises and to develop a correct attitude towards thecrises. Looking back to the history of financial crises and analyzing the causes of crises keepthe translator curious about the translation practice in the whole process of translation formore than3months.The report contains the following parts: First is the introduction: an introduction to thebook and its author, the reason why the translator chooses the book, and brief conclusion.Second is about the description of the task. It mainly includes the translator’s preparation forthe task, about the selection of dictionary. The term list is of vital importance which helps thetranslator a lot during the whole process of translation. Third part is about translation based ontext features: In this part the translator analyzes the features from the lexical level, sentencelevel and rhetorical devices and how to deal these features during translation. Because the titleboasts its own features, so the translator discusses it separately. Fourth,translation techniques:case study. In this part, the translator mainly discusses the translation techniques applied inthe translation and how they help the translation reach better results. The final part is aboutthe translator’s conclusion of the whole task.
