As one of the vital factors, loan helps countries to support the steady economicgrowth and affects every aspect of social development profoundly. Reasonable loanscould help the companies’ rapid development in their infancy, help enterprises whichin difficult economic cycle reverse the financial statues, as well as help individuals tomeet the current capital needs, such as long-term installment loans and short-termconsumer loans. However, banks’ credit approval mechanism of our country is notperfect enough at present, even under the jointly regulation of People’s Bank ofChina and China Banking Regulatory Commission, some bad assets and loans wouldstill appear on the banks’ statements of account. Compared with the foreign banks interms of credit approval mechanism, financial banking institutions in our countryshall learn and draw lessons from them, and improve and perfect it according to theactual condition.Because there is lack of foreign banks’ credit financial English text translationand the relative bibliographies could not be referred, the English-Chinese translationwork on Credit Menu of the Bank of East Asia fitly provides Chinese banks amarvelous platform for drawing lessons from credit business. Accurately translatingthe whole content of Credit Menu could not only make a basis for inner staff toexecute the bank’s credit policies, but also help to optimize credit managementapproval system in order to weaken the risk, control the risk and ensure reasonablydistributing normal loans for the purpose of promoting China’s robust economicgrowth. No matter in the aspect of guiding credit business, or in the research andteaching field of financial English translation, this project could provide somehowvaluable theoretical and practical significance.During the translation practice of this project, the author adopted the translationresearch mode of “text content analysis, translation problems analysis, translationstrategies analysis, translation skills analysis”, which tries to find out translationstrategies and skills for all financial English text translation. In the process oftranslation practice, the author based on the text type theory of functionalism schooland Christiane Nord’s theory of text analysis to develop text analysis for Credit Menu and analyses outer and inner factors which influence the translator in thetranslation practice. According to the text type and function of financial English text,adopting corresponding translation strategies to solve the relevant problems andsummarizing the translation skills to reach the aim of providing guidance andreference for the inner staff of the bank of East Asia, Chinese banks and financialEnglish translators. The source text contains a quantity of financial Englishterminologies, which is suitable for people with professional background knowledgeto read. In the translation period, the author tries to summarizes four translationmeans and skills which is fit for translating financial English texts. As a translator,the author hopes that the translation research of this project can provide theoreticalreference value and practical significance to the related financial English texttranslation practice and financial English translation teaching.
