The translation report will be based on the translation of the Introduction and Chapter Six of the book Stress Test: Reflections on Financial Crises written by Timothy F. Geithner, who is the former United States Secretary of the Treasury. This book is about how the former Treasury Secretary helped United States navigate the worst financial crises since the Great Depression. The book tells the inside story about the actions policymakers had taken to save the economy during the financial crises especially in the decisive moments and explains why the measures had taken were necessary at that time.With guidance from the supervisor, the translation report will focus on how to produce an understandable, readable and acceptable translation results by analyzing the text features and corresponding translation techniques employed during the translation process. In order to achieve this, the author will review literatures discussing financial text features and the translation strategies and techniques adopted. Combining source texts as well as parallel texts analysis with literature review, the author will summarize the text features, translation problems and difficulties encountered in the translation and elaborate on the translation techniques and methods the translator used in order to give a decent translation. The discussion about the translation techniques will concentrate on the translation of technical terms, rhetoric devices and long sentences especially those with compound structures. This report will introduce some background information, the objectives and significance of the translation practice, that is, background information about the author, main contents, text features and translation process. After summarizing the text features and translation problems and difficulties, which mainly focus on the terminologies, rhetoric devices and long sentences, the report will give some translation strategies, such as addition, omission, division, shift and combination, originated from parallel texts comparison and translation practice itself. At the end of this report, the author will state the findings and limitations of the translation practice.After the translation practice and analysis of the translation, the author will get a better understanding of financial texts and enhance her ability to deal with financial texts, especially the ability with the translation of terms, long sentences, and rhetoric devices. More importantly, through the discussion of the text features, translation problems and difficulties and translation techniques used during the translation process, the author hopes to shed some light on how to make the financial texts translation linguistically, communicatively, culturally and socially acceptable and readable.
