Tourism website has been playing an important role in introducing China’stourist attractions to the international tourists. However, due to the lack ofconsideration of English-speakers’ response and their cultural background intranslating, many English versions of tourist attraction introductions in the websitesare simply literal translations of the corresponding Chinese introductions, amongwhich, translation errors, especially the cultural translation errors are the mostcommon problem. Based on the principles of functionalist approach and theintercultural communication theory, the thesis discusses and analyzes the Englishversion of introductions about China’s six places of interests in tourism websitewww.ctrip.com and then compares the introductions with the parallel text in theforeign tourism website www.expedia.com, in attempt to explore the culturaltranslation errors in this type of texts. The thesis will also analyze the major reasonscaused the errors and put forward the corresponding suggestions for translators so asto avoid the errors in the web-based tourist attraction introductions translation.
