A Report On The Translation Of Shanxi Tourist Attraction Series-Jinci Temple

Shanxi Tourist Attraction Series-Jinci Temple makes a detailed introduction to Jinci Temple and its culture,such as its origin,historical personages and related legends,and main attractions and relics.It serves as a direction for people to know the long history and the rich culture of Jinci Temple.The author chose Jinci Temple as the translation material in the hope that this task may popularize Jinci culture among English target readers and improve her translation competence as well.The translation report analyzes the translation difficulties in the process and the methods applied in solving the difficulties in three aspects: the translation of names of scenic spots,culture-loaded words and terms of ancient Chinese architecture.This report includes four chapters.Chapter One deals with the translation task in terms of its background,significance and literature review of tourism translation.Chapter Two focuses on the translation process,including the stages before,in and after the translation process.Firstly,textual features were analyzed and thus the general translation principle was established.Then a glossary was made and a detailed translation process was explained.At last,proofreading was conducted.Chapter Three is the case study which illustrates the translation methods adopted by analyzing some typical examples.The examples are divided into three types,that is,the translation of names of scenic spots,terms of ancient Chinese architecture,and culture-loaded elements.As for translating the names of scenic spots,what should be taken into consideration is whether a certain cultural connotation or meaning is conveyed in the names.As for translating the terms of ancient Chinese architecture,the priority is to satisfy target readers' needs.As for translating culture-loaded elements,various translation methods,like literal translation,liberal translation,omission and annotation,are adopted according to specific contexts.Chapter Four summarizes the experiences,limitations and future improvement in the translation task.
