Social exclusion is a common negative life events. A number of studies have demonstrated itspossible to impact on people’s biological and psychological health, but the impacts on emotionand by what cause are not consistent. In this study, two types of social exclusion of the mostcommon were selected and compared: rejection and ostracism, three emotional experiments weredesigned. Experiment1used emotional self report method and the emotional implicit attitudetest, to observe difference of emotional arousal based on the different social exclusion situation;Experiment2was according to the previous experimental results, emotional regulationstrategy learning program were design, subjects were required to accommodate their emotionunder the different social exclusion situations by using the specific strategies, change wasobserved; Experiment3used the ER-IAT paradigm, to observe of orientation strategy context ofautomatic emotion regulation based on different social exclusion, to infer whether becausedifferent decision preference to cause the difference of emotion regulation effects, and regressionanalysis were applied to construct the models of specific emotional regulating based on thesituations of social exclusion.Rresults:(1) the ostracism group reported negative emotions coincidently between externalemotion and emotional implicit attitude; however rejection group reported negativeemotions explicit, but attentional blink was appeared on the positive picture, showingemotional dissociation;(2) cognitive reappraisal strategy was more effective than expressivesuppression strategy on the ostracism group (not significant),in the test of emotionalregulation; however the effect are contrary in the rejection group(significant), when cognitivereappraisal strategy was used, the rejection group were effective than the ostracism group(significant),but when expressive suppression strategy was use, the results were contrary(but notsignificantly);(3) the effect of emotional regulation to the rejection group was better than theostracism group when regulation strategy were controlled;(4) the ostracism group was prefer onthe use of expression suppression strategy, while the rejection group was refer on the use ofcognitive reappraisal, which obtained better results because by searchingthe positive images automatically;(5)both the situational factors and automatic emotion regulationstrategies can be predicted emotion regulation effect effectively, and automatic emotion regulation strategies were detected as the intermediary factor between social exclusion and emotionregulation effect. These results suggest that, the differences of emotional regulation based on the socialexclusion were ont only affected by the situation, but also rely on the emotional regulationstrategies. Ostracism should be paid more attention, and inspire different individual to use specificregulation strategies when different situations of social exclusion were experienced.
