As a kind of visual symbols, English font in the process of people’s reading is an important factor. It is the important tool of people reading functions. Reading function is done by the font. Therefore, when using the font and considering the glyph choice, the application of color, the size of the text, the function of English font which let people can accurately identify and also can let the font and readers to produce emotional associations. When people reading that can be accurately and keep cheerful and comfortable feelings. Therefore, from a functional perspective, the functional of the font can be summarized as material function and spiritual function.This paper based on the theoretical research to identify the concept of recognition and emotional with experimental method as the research objective. A variety of evaluation methods improve the accuracy of evaluation.In this paper, two stages of research achieve the goal. The first stage is recognition in English font. How to effectively identify a text is the starting point of the thesis, namely the study of word recognition. Objective experimental method:text search, with the method of questionnaire are used to research, starting from the rational angle of the font. The second phase from another function, font as visual graphic symbol have emotional factors. Therefore, from the perceptual perspective, the font has a certain mental function. When people need to use the font, how better to choose the font and use the font is the second starting point of the research.In this paper, on the one hand, from the perspective of the function, font has the function of material and spirit. From a rational perspective, the identification of material features are contained in the font. In the era of rapid exchange of information, efficient reading speed in today’s is an important part of the demand for the font. On the other hand, from the perceptual perspective, the spirit of font functions contained in the emotional for research. Combination of colors and fonts explore the emotional trend of font. On the research perspective, this study in English font as the research object, the subjective test survey combined with the evaluation of objective test research methods. From the point of view of data analysis, this paper combines the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, combining subjective survey and objective test to improve the precision of research. Based on the identification and emotional, the research can help people how to use and how to choice the fonts int the future.
