Localization-A Fundamental Role Of Every Vertical Industry

This translation project is an innovative work involving translation as well as compilation. The original material is taken from a number of fragments from case studies, official websites’texts, and business reviews. Compiled as an integrated whole, this reorganized text intends to illustrate the significance of localization industry more comprehensively by associating each independent part with other parts of the whole text. The reconstructed text is divided into four parts, with each part addressing localization from a different perspective. All source contents mentioned above are confirmed to have no Chinese translation before January,2014.Combining with the international and domestic realistic background, I found that this project is of immediate significance. In respect of source content selection, this project aims at introducing localization industry by giving a brief overview of its current situation and the probable development tendency in the next few years, in order to inspire enterprises that have international ambitions with considerations on the Chinese context. Meanwhile, by introducing other burgeoning vertical industries which are related to localization, the advanced tools that could facilitate localization service with high efficiency, as well as the discovery of incomplete service system of such business in China, this project may enlighten relevant enterprises with considerations on business structure transformation. In respect of the translation practice, this project seeks to carry out a detailed investigation into translation activity from localization perspective through taking practice on several typical translation works.Issues and difficulties that the translator found during the translation process are identified and summarized in the project report part. At the same time, some useful methodologies and skills are also introduced. To flexibly apply the methods and approaches to problem-solving, one needs to have a perception of the problems in the first place. The project report part gives a description of the source texts; meanwhile a primitive categorization of the problems that appeared during the translation process is taken. Identifying the problems and issues is an important stage in the entire process of this project. Nevertheless, having knowledge of these problems and issues is not enough. Concrete methods and approaches are needed when it comes to practical problem- solving. The project report part also illustrates several practical methods and approaches with specific instances in the translation practice of this project.
