This is a translation project report of the Introduction and Chapter 1 from Translation and Web Localization, an academic book written by Miguel Jimenez-Crespo who is a professor focusing on translation research from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The selected source text introduces each part of the book and presents localization industry from its origin and development to its definition from both academic perspective and industry, describing the relation between translation and web localization industry in a more comprehensive way. The main function of the source text is to introduce the results of localization research, which can serve as a reference book for scholars and students who are interested in localization. According to Katharina Reiss’ s analysis of text types, the source text of the translation project belongs to informative text. The logical structure of the sentences should be sorted out during the translation process, so as to clearly express the meaning of the source text and realize its purpose. The project report is divided into three parts. First part is a brief introduction to localization. Second part is the main body with four Chapters: Chapter One states the objective and significance of the project; Chapter Two analyzes the type and content of the source text, as well as explains the target readers and pre-task work; Chapter Three presents the guiding theory and difficulties in translation; Chapter Four lists some examples in order to explicitly explain the methods and skills used in translation process. The last part is the conclusion, which summarizes the unsolved problem during translation process and translation enlightenment.
