An Inquiry Into The Application Of National Elements In The Musical "Wu Ku-niang"

The Chinese music drama was developed in the1990’s via the ways of imitation and recreation from the west."Wu Ku-niang" is one of typical and original Chinese musical works which included couple of Chinese elements. For example, Musical of "Wu ku-niang" described a nice and touched love story, which is able to express the local culture, lifestyle of people who live in region of Jiangnan, and musical art style in the eastern China. It is no doubt that "Wu ku-niang" is a master musical work in China.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the theoretical value of "Wu ku-niang" music drama through interviewing the dramatists and musical artists of "Wu Ku-niang"; meanwhile, to discuss the relationship and combination between local culture, folk music and western art form base upon the statement of national elements and concept of art creation. In addition, the paper is also to reflect the how to create artist image of "Wu Ku-niang" via the vocal musical skills (e.g. singing style and singing language design). Finally, base on the results of this study, the paper will record the discussion and thoughts of some new and creative stage performance skills. It is hope that the study conducted can provide some benefits to the development of Chinese original music drama.
